Guwahati: Hailakandi District Transport Officer has been placed under suspension for gross negligence of duties.
The officer has been identified as Apu Mazumdar.
Adil Khan, the secretary of the transport department, issued an order suspending DTO Apu Mazumdar immediately in accordance with Rule 6(1)(a) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964, pending the withdrawal of departmental proceedings against him for leaving the district headquarters without prior authorization on June 15.
When DTO Mazumdar departed the office for Gurugram, Haryana, without first receiving permission from the district administration, the then-Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Rohan Kumar Jha, informed the Transport authorities.
Khan has requested that an official with the rank of Assistant Commissioner be appointed to lead the district transportation office in the interim.
