Hanuman Jayanti Celebrated with Fervor in Sikkim
Northeast Desk, 23rd April: Hanuman Jayanti was joyously celebrated across the picturesque state of Sikkim today, drawing devotees to the iconic Hanuman Tok temple, nestled just a few kilometers away from the state capital. This temple, rich in mythology and historical significance, has long been a revered site for Hanuman Jayanti festivities, attracting throngs of devotees from near and far in the early hours of the day.
Legend has it that Hanuman Tok is the very place where Lord Hanuman paused to rest while returning with the Sanjivni plant to heal the injured Laxmana in the Hindu epic Ramayana. Since 1962, following the Indo-China war, the temple has been meticulously cared for by the Indian Army.
The atmosphere surrounding Hanuman Tok was vibrant and lively, with devotees adorning themselves in Hanuman-printed kurtas, t-shirts, and flags adorned with the image of Lord Hanuman. Despite the distance and the pilgrimage-like journey, devotees arrived barefoot, a testament to their deep reverence and unwavering devotion.
Hanuman Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Hanuman, a revered figure celebrated for his strength, energy, and protective prowess. Falling on the 15th day of the Shukla Paksha during the month of Chaitra, the festival symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the power of devotion.
Prem Singh Tamang, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, took to Twitter to express his reverence on this auspicious occasion. “On the auspicious occasion of Shri Hanuman Jayanti, I visited Mahakal Mandir in Darjeeling to offer prayers and seek the divine blessings of Lord Hanuman Ji on behalf of the people of Sikkim. May the Lord Hanuman Ji grant us strength and guidance to overcome all obstacles and lead us towards prosperity, peace, and higher spiritual level,” Tamang tweeted, encapsulating the spirit of devotion and hope that pervades the day’s celebrations.
