Haryana State Commission for Women Summons Congress Leader Randeep Singh Surjewala Over Remarks Against BJP MP Hema Malini
National Desk, 10th April: The Haryana State Commission for Women has summoned Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala to appear on April 18 following his remarks against BJP MP Hema Malini. Surjewala’s comments have drawn criticism for being labeled as ‘undignified’ and ‘vulgar’.
The Election Commission of India also issued a show-cause notice to Surjewala on April 9, stating that his remarks not only insulted Hema Malini but also disrespected her position as a Member of Parliament, causing damage to the honor of women legislators in general.
In response to these incidents, the Commission has urged Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge to ensure respectful public discourse towards women by party leaders. Furthermore, the Commission has taken note of repeated violations by senior Congress functionaries and has requested steps to ensure compliance with the Commission’s advisories relating to the honor and dignity of women.
