Health Ministry: Covid Cases May Surge in Mid-Jan
Guwahati: The next 40 days would be crucial since India might experience a spike in COVID cases in mid-January. This was informed by Union Health Ministry on Wednesday.
According to the ministry, the evaluation was formed after looking at prior COVID outbreak trends in the nation.
The operational readiness of health facilities is being examined in all States and Union Territories in case of another wave, as there have been reports of an increase in COVID cases in several nations.
Notably, two people arriving from Dubai tested positive for the COVID virus on Wednesday at Chennai Airport.
“Two passengers who arrived from Dubai tested positive at the Chennai airport today. Both of them hailed from the Alangudi district of Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai. Their test samples have been sent to State Public Health Laboratory,” said Tamil Nadu Health Department said.
At least 39 international travellers have tested positive for COVID infection as part of the random testing of foreign travellers arriving at airports between December 24 and December 26.
“The total number of international flights screened in the last three days i.e., December 24, December 25 and December 26 is 498. The number of samples collected for COVID-19 testing is 1,780. The cumulative number of samples collected is 3,994. The cumulative number of samples testing positive is 39 and the cumulative number of samples sent for whole genome sequencing is 39,” sources told ANI on Tuesday.
Hospitals all throughout India ran a COVID Mock drill in response to the rise in COVID in some nations. The mock drill’s objective was to assess the level of personnel, protocol, and resource readiness for COVID.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya visited the Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday to see the mock drill.
“To make sure there is not a COVID surge in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked us to be careful. The government is also preparing if the Covid cases increase. Today mock drills are conducted across Covid hospitals in the country to make sure people get proper treatment,” the Union Health Minister said at Safdarjung hospital.
This came after four foreign visitors from Myanmar had COVID infections detected at the Delhi airport.
India registered 188 new COVID-19 infections in the previous 24 hours, according to information released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
3,468 cases are now active in India, which is less than 0.01% of all cases. 98.8% of cases are currently being recovered. The number of recoveries increased to 141 in the previous day, bringing the total to 4,41,43,483.
The weekly positivity rate is 0.18 percent, compared to a 0.14 percent daily positivity rate.
90,529 doses of the COVID-19 vaccination have been administered in the previous 24 hours.
According to government data, the statewide COVID-19 vaccination campaign has so far resulted in the administration of nearly 220.07 crore vaccine doses.
