Heart-wrenching Tragedy Strikes Tikjuk: Young Man’s Suicide Linked to Online Gaming Debt

Gangtok: A pall of gloom has descended upon Tikjuk in Sikkim’s Gyalshing district following the discovery of 25-year-old Michael Limboo, son of Dil Prashad Limboo, dead by suicide. The grim find was made by his cousin, Salim Limboo (24), at approximately 6:45 AM on June 10, sending shockwaves through the quiet locality.

Salim, a resident of Tikjuk himself, promptly alerted local authorities at around 8:05 AM. In a written statement, he detailed finding Michael hanging by a nylon rope near their residence, a tragic scene that has left the community reeling.

Swift action followed the report, with Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Gyalshing, Pulkit, IAS, conducting an inquest over the body. This crucial procedure, carried out under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, unfolded in the presence of independent witnesses and Michael’s family, offering a glimpse into the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise.

During the inquest, a suicide note was recovered from the left pocket of Michael’s jeans, shedding light on the immense internal struggle he faced. In the note, Michael poignantly revealed his misuse of monthly salary on online games and the burden of a borrowed sum from a friend. His inability to repay this debt, he wrote, became an unbearable stressor, ultimately leading him to take the extreme step.

Following the thorough inquest, Michael’s body was sent to the District Hospital in Gyalshing for a post-mortem examination. After completing all necessary legal and medical formalities, the body was handed over to his legal guardian, allowing the grieving family to proceed with the final rites.

The police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case under FIR No. 16/2025 dated June 10, 2025, in accordance with Section 194 of BNSS. While the investigation has thus far found no evidence of foul play, officials have confirmed that the case remains active, with further details to be gathered as needed to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the tragedy.
