Heatwave Claims Another Life in Assam, Temperatures Continue to Soar
Guwahati: A 55-year-old man has succumbed to the extreme heat conditions in Nagaon district’s Juria, bringing the total number of heat-related deaths to an unconfirmed number in the state.
Amir Ali, a resident of Kadmoni Pathar village in Juria, reportedly fell ill while returning home from the local market and was rushed to the Dagaon Primary Health Centre, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
The incident has caused widespread concern among locals, who are already struggling to cope with the intense heat, frequent power outages, and load shedding. Residents of Juria and other parts of Assam have expressed their distress over the worsening weather conditions and inadequate power supply, which are making daily life increasingly difficult.
Meanwhile, an unidentified body was recovered near a resting shed close to the main office of Oil India Limited in Duliajan. The police have registered an unnatural death case and launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary assumptions suggest that the extreme heat may have led to the individual’s collapse and eventual death.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a heat and humidity warning for several areas in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh for the next 48 hours. The soaring temperatures are attributed to mainly clear to partly cloudy skies and high solar insolation during the day. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
The heatwave conditions continue to affect large parts of Assam, including its capital city, Guwahati, with temperatures remaining above normal and high humidity levels adding to the discomfort of residents. The situation is expected to remain dire in the coming days, with the heatwave warning serving as a reminder to take necessary precautions.
