Heavy Goods Vehicles Banned on Key Sikkim-Bengal Highway Stretch
Sevoke-Rangpo: The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has temporarily barred heavy goods vehicles from a critical seven-kilometre stretch of National Highway 10 (NH-10) linking Sikkim with West Bengal.
The restriction, effective from 10 PM on August 9, 2025, to 10 PM on August 11, 2025, covers the section between kilometer 20 (27th Mile) and kilometer 27 (Teesta Bazaar). Issued by the Highway Administrator, the order cites safety as the primary reason for the two-day ban on heavy vehicles.
This precautionary measure is likely a response to potential risks or compromised road conditions in the area. Authorities have sought the cooperation of local district administrations and police forces to manage the traffic flow efficiently, arrange for diversions for affected vehicles, and ensure the safety of commuters. The move aims to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain an uninterrupted passage for other vehicles on this vital arterial road.
