Heavy Rainfall in Mizoram Forces School Closures and Disrupts Travel

Northeast Desk, 2nd July: Heavy rainfall continues to lash Mizoram, leading to the closure of all schools across the state on Tuesday, July 2. The adverse weather conditions have also caused significant travel disruptions, including a major road blockage between Aizawl’s Chanmari and Ramhlun locality, attributed to landslides triggered by the incessant rains.

On July 1, Government Zirtiri Residential Science College in Aizawl postponed its classes due to hazardous road conditions and the risk of further landslides. The college has rescheduled the reopening of classes to July 5, with a General Body Meeting planned for the same day. Regular classes will resume on July 8, prioritizing the safety of students and staff.

In addition, the Local Council of Aizawl’s Salem Veng has advised 20 families to relocate to safer areas due to the deteriorating weather conditions.

The Mizoram government has issued a public notice warning residents of potential heavy rainfall and associated risks across multiple districts.
