Heavy Rainfall with Landslide Wreak Havoc in Himachal Pradesh, India

National Desk, 24th August: Himachal Pradesh continues to face severe challenges as heavy rainfall triggers floods, landslides, and infrastructure damage. On August 23, the state reported 12 additional deaths, more than 400 road closures, and damage to numerous homes.

The meteorological office has issued a “red alert” for six out of the state’s 12 districts, including Shimla, anticipating “heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated spells of extremely heavy rains.”

In another unfortunate incident, a significant landslide occurred on August 24 in Kullu’s Anni district, leading to the collapse of multiple structures, and compounding the impact of rain-related disasters.

Additionally, a 10-kilometer-long traffic jam has formed in Kullu district due to damage caused by the rain on the route connecting to Mandi.

In Anni town, Kullu district, approximately 8–9 structures collapsed near the new bus stop. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. Authorities had issued warnings for people to evacuate the area about a week ago.
