Heavy Rains Devastate Arunachal Pradesh, Displace Thousands

Northeast Desk, 1st July: Incessant heavy rains continue to cause widespread devastation across Arunachal Pradesh, displacing thousands of residents and leading to significant infrastructural damage. In the Lower Dibang Valley District’s Shantipur colony, surging floodwaters swept away a house, highlighting the severity of the situation.

The impact of the floods extends far beyond Changlang, with reports indicating that over 50,000 people have been affected across the district. Diyun, too, has not been spared from the relentless floods.

Infrastructure in the region has been severely hit, notably with the collapse of the crucial Kurung bridge in Kurung Kumey district. This bridge, vital for regional connectivity, linked the district headquarters with Sangram, Palin, Yachuli, Yazali, and Itanagar. Its destruction has isolated several communities and disrupted access to the international border areas of Sarli and Huri, further compounding the challenges faced by the residents.

Authorities are on high alert, working to provide relief and restore connectivity as the region grapples with the ongoing crisis.
