Helicopter services resumes in Sikkim

The Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) today announced resumption of the Bagdogra-Gangtok passenger helicopter service after several months of suspension due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent halting of all passenger flights in India, the STDC-operated Pawan Hans helicopter was grounded in Sikkim as well. A STDC statement informs the helicopter service is now fully functional especially for medical and other emergencies. People who wish to fly out of Sikkim or come back to home in the shortest possible manner can now do so by simply booking a seat at STDC booking counter at M.G. Marg.

Outbound passengers can fly out of Gangtok without any problems as exit permits are not required but inbound passengers flying back to Gangtok from Bagdogra need to mandatorily get registered online and screened as per the State government’s Covid-19 protocols at the Burtuk helipad. In view of the standard operating procedures issued by the State government, the helicopter would carry only four passengers at the moment. The aircraft is sanitized before and after every flight, the STDC adds.
