Guwahati: Two suspected drug peddlers were arrested and heroin was recovered from their car during checking in Karimganj district of Assam on Wednesday evening.
Based on a tip-off, police set up a checkpoint on Sonakhira in Patharkandi and started inspecting the vehicles.
During the operation, the Alto car bearing the registration number AS10 E 9032 was intercepted by the officials when it was en route Tripura from Nilambazar in Karimganj.
On checking the vehicle, heroin weighing 500 grams was seized.
The operation was led by Karimganj Additional Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das.
The two drug peddlers identified as Jamil Ahmed and Ahmed Hussain hailing from Patharkandi and Moina.
It needs to be mentioned that the price of the seized heroin is estimated to be worth around Rs 4 crores in the market.
