High-level Review Meeting to be Held by PM Modi Amid Rise in COVID-19 Cases

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a high-level meeting to assess public health readiness in light of the increase of Covid-19 cases on March 22.

A high-level meeting will be held at 4:30 PM.

India has recorded 1,134 new infections, raising the total number of active cases to 7,026 as of Wednesday, according to figures from the Union Health Ministry.

Five more deaths have brought the total number of Covid fatalities to 5,30,813 overall. Kerala confirmed one fatality while Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra each reported one death. Weekly optimism was 0.98 percent compared to a daily positivity rate of 1.09 percent.

The Union Health Ministry wrote to six states this week informing them of a spike in Covid cases and suggesting that the rise may be the result of a localised coronavirus outbreak.

“There are a few states reporting greater numbers of cases, indicating the probable localised spread of illness,” Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said in a letter to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
