High-Ranking Manipur Police Officers Deployed to Jiribam and Borobekra Amid Search for Missing Individuals
Imphal: Senior officers from the Manipur Police, holding the ranks of Inspector General (IG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG), have been stationed in the Jiribam and Borobekra regions to lead and coordinate efforts in the search for six missing individuals.
This deployment underscores the seriousness with which authorities are approaching the situation, according to a recent police statement.
In a parallel response, the women’s wing of the Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) issued a strong appeal on Thursday, calling for the immediate and safe release of the six individuals, which includes women and children, abducted from the Jiribam region. Expressing profound concern, the DMCC urged the highest levels of government to intervene urgently.
Meitei women leaders emphasized that failure to secure the release of these abductees could severely undermine the government’s moral authority and risk escalating tensions in the region. “If these individuals are harmed, it will be seen as a tacit endorsement by the authorities concerned, further deepening public mistrust and potentially fueling the narrative of a government complicit in perpetuating violence for political ends,” read their statement.
The DMCC’s statement further highlighted a growing public perception that the government’s approach to the crisis risks deepening ethnic divides in Manipur. They warned that this perception, if left unaddressed, could erode peace and stability in the region.
The presence of IG- and DIG-level officers signals the commitment of law enforcement to resolve the situation swiftly. These senior officers are overseeing inter-agency coordination, resource management, and search operations across the affected areas. Both local residents and law enforcement authorities hope for rapid progress as these coordinated efforts intensify under high-level supervision. Further updates are anticipated as the search continues.
