Himachal CM : Will Implement Old Pension Scheme in First Cabinet Meet
Guwahati: The new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu announced on Sunday that his administration would implement the OPS (Old Pension Scheme) at its first cabinet meeting.
The CM was quoted by ANI saying, “We have given 10 guarantees and we will implement them. We will give transparent and honest government. We will implement OPS (Old Pension Scheme) in the first cabinet meeting.”
Sukhu was sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of the hill state earlier today.
On the other hand, former opposition leader Mukesh Agnihotri took the oath to serve as the deputy chief minister.
Governor RV Arlekar administered the oath of office to them at a formal function being organized at Ridge Maidan in Shimla.
Top Congress leaders, including President Mallikarjun Kharge, party leader Rahul Gandhi, and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, were present for the swearing-in ceremony of the new administration in Himachal Pradesh.
A four-time MLA, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, served as the state’s former Congress leader and was a member of the NSUI and Youth Congress.
He is an up-and-coming politician from the grassroots with extensive organisational knowledge in the hill state.
He served as the party’s state unit president from 2013 to 2019. He was known for speaking his thoughts, even when the tall party leader and six-time chief minister Virbhadra Singh did not agree.
Elections for the Shimla Municipal Corporation were fought and won by him. Sukhu defeated Nadaun for the first time in the 2003 assembly elections.
He is now the second chief minister to emerge from the Hamirpur district after Prem Kumar Dhumal of the BJP. The state’s assembly elections were won by Congress, who received 40 members.
