Himachal: Congress MLAs to Meet In Shimla To Finalize CM
Guwahati: The Congress MLAs in Himachal will meet in Shimla on Friday to elect a prime minister after the party recorded victory in the provincial elections.
The Himachal Congress Legislative party meeting will be held at the National Assembly Headquarters in Rajiv Bhawan at 3pm.
Himachal Pradesh State Legislature Officer Rajeev Shukla and Supervisor Bhupesh Baghel and Bhupendra Hooda will also attend the meeting.
According to reports, the MLA are likely to pass a resolution empowering the party’s high command to hear a final appeal to the prime minister.
Parliament had previously planned to hold the MLA’s meeting in Chandigarh where there was no leading candidate in the mountain state but changed plans after winning a clear majority.
Selecting a candidate for prime minister from among various candidates including Pratibha Singh is a big task for parliament. Former State Assembly Speaker Skwinder Singh Suk and his CLP leader Mukesh Agnihotri are also considered other candidates for the post.
Earlier on Thursday, Shukla said the party leader would decide who would become the prime minister of Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking to national media on election results, he said the party leader would make a decision about the prime minister’s post.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Prime Minister Jai Ram Thakur resigned following his party’s election defeat.
“I want to thank Prime Minister and central leadership (for their support) during last five years. We’ll stand for the development of the state irrespective of politics. We’ll analyse our shortcomings and improve during the next term,” Thakur told media persons in Shimla.
Congress in charge of Himachal Pradesh Rajiv Shukla said the party will implement 10 guarantees in the state.
“It’s victory of people of the state. People voted for change and against unemployment and inflation. We’ll be united and there won’t be any factionalism in our party. We met party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and had a discussion regarding our next step,” he said.
