Himanta Biswa Sarma Responds: ‘Ram Rajya’ to Query on Rahul Gandhi’s Entry to Assam Shrine
Guwahati, 22nd January: In a controversial incident on January 22, 2024, during his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi faced obstacles preventing him from entering the revered Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva.
Responding to queries on social media about the incident, a Twitter user questioned the denial of temple entry, prompting Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to cryptically reply, “Ram Rajya.”
Rahul Gandhi alleged that he was initially denied access to Batadrava Than and only allowed entry after 3 PM on the same day. A disagreement arose as the Satra authorities had requested him to visit after 3 PM, but Gandhi arrived earlier, leading to the confrontation.
Expressing dismay, Rahul Gandhi questioned, “What is the issue brother? Can I go and see the barricades? What mistake have I made that I am not allowed inside the temple?” The incident highlights tensions surrounding political figures and cultural sites in the region.
