Himanta Biswa Sarma Unveils Plan to Begin Construction of 500 Schools in Assam in February

Guwahati, 12th January: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Assam’s upcoming development surge, with the construction of 500 schools taking center stage in February. Expressing enthusiasm, Sarma declared the government’s readiness to initiate the school projects and highlighted other key initiatives, such as ration cards and Udyamitra, assuring completion by February 15.

Simultaneously, Assam gears up for the Budget Session of the Legislative Assembly, scheduled from February 5 to 28. Finance Minister Ajanta Neog is set to present the budget on February 12, ushering in discussions on crucial matters, while proposed Bills targeting polygamy and designating specific regions as a “protected belt and block” are expected to secure approval.

Chief Minister Sarma expressed confidence in the impending polygamy ban, stating, “We are working very hard on it.” The legislative session kicks off with the Governor’s Address on February 5, followed by two days dedicated to questioning sessions and further deliberation on the Motion of Thanks.

Attention shifts to the budget on February 8, involving activities such as questions, voting on supplementary demands for grants, and the presentation of the Assam Appropriation Bill. The subsequent week is devoted to budget-related activities, including questions, presentations of the Annual Report, and the unveiling of the Financial Pro-Statement on February 13.

From February 15 to 20, departmental discussions take precedence, as legislators scrutinize and question each department. A brief recess for committee meetings precedes the resumption of questioning and voting on demands for grants on February 21 and 22.

The final week of the session is marked by further deliberations, the consideration and passage of bills, and the pursuit of non-government members’ agendas, including questions, member’s time, and resolutions. Assam anticipates a growth-focused fortnight, symbolized by both infrastructural development and legislative endeavors.
