Historic Appointment: Nina Singh Becomes First Woman Director General of CISF

National Desk, 29th December: Nina Singh has etched her name in history as the first woman appointed as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). A distinguished 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Rajasthan cadre, Singh’s groundbreaking tenure is slated to continue until her superannuation on July 31, 2024.

Prior to this historic appointment, Nina Singh held various significant roles, including that of Special Director General of CISF. Her career highlights also include serving as Joint Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from 2013 to 2018, overseeing high-profile cases with national and international implications.

Singh, an alumna of Patna Women’s College, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Harvard University, assumed the position of DG in charge of CISF from August 31, 2023, following the retirement of her predecessor. On a personal note, she is married to Rohit Kumar Singh, an IAS officer from her batch, currently serving as the Secretary of Consumer Affairs in the Central government.

Beyond breaking the glass ceiling, Nina Singh’s appointment holds significance due to the critical role CISF plays in managing security at airports and other vital infrastructure. Her leadership is anticipated to introduce new perspectives and initiatives, enhancing the force’s capabilities in industrial security.

This historic move is part of a broader reshuffle, including the appointment of Anish Dayal Singh as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rahul Rasgotra as the head of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). These strategic placements underscore the government’s commitment to reinforcing India’s internal security apparatus with experienced officers in key positions.
