Historic Assam Assembly Session Convenes in Kokrajhar for the First Time
Kokrajhar– In a landmark move, the Assam Legislative Assembly is set to convene its first-ever Budget session outside Guwahati, with Kokrajhar hosting the inaugural sitting today.
Ministers and MLAs gathered earlier at Circuit House in Bajali, where they had breakfast before embarking on their journey to the session venue. The event has drawn significant public interest, with locals turning up in large numbers to catch a glimpse of their leaders.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the occasion as historic, emphasizing its significance in strengthening the administration of Sixth Schedule areas. He further noted that the Governor’s customary speech on the opening day of the Budget session would be one of the key highlights.
“It symbolizes the return of peace in the state and the integration of all communities. Kokrajhar, once the epicenter of the Bodoland agitation, will now witness a special one-day Assembly session that marks a new era for Assam,” Sarma stated.
The Chief Minister also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their unwavering support in ensuring the session’s success. He described this milestone as one of the defining moments of his tenure.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), underscored the NDA government’s commitment to empowering the Bodo community. “The NDA Governments, both at the Centre and in Assam, have been working tirelessly to fulfill Bodo aspirations. These efforts will continue with even greater vigor,” he wrote, recalling his visit to Kokrajhar, where he experienced the region’s vibrant culture firsthand.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his best wishes to the people of Bodoland, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to regional peace and development.
As the session unfolds, all eyes will be on Kokrajhar, which has transformed from a region once fraught with unrest to the epicenter of political and administrative progress in Assam.
