Historic Peace Accord in Tripura: NLFT and ATTF Renounce Insurgency

Northeast Desk, September 4, 2024 — In a landmark move towards lasting peace in Tripura, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) have signed a Memorandum of Settlement, formally renouncing their insurgent activities and joining the mainstream. The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.

This pivotal agreement marks a significant step in ending decades of insurgency in the region. Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed profound appreciation for Amit Shah’s instrumental role in fostering peace and stability across the Northeast. “Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the proactive initiative of Home Minister Amit Shah, a dozen peace agreements have been signed in the Northeast in the last 10 years, with three such agreements for Tripura alone,” Saha noted.

The chief minister highlighted the importance of the insurgent groups’ decision to embrace peace, noting that it paves the way for their involvement in Tripura’s ongoing development initiatives. Saha emphasized that various government programs, particularly those targeting the Janjati communities, have been instrumental in transforming lives across the state. He expressed confidence in Tripura’s bright future under the visionary guidance of the current leadership.

Welcoming the NLFT and ATTF members back to a life of peace and prosperity, Saha extended his best wishes, underscoring the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas” as the guiding principle for Tripura’s future development.
