Home Voting Begins for Lok Sabha Elections in Meghalaya; 6,106 electors registered

Northeast Desk, 5th April: Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari announced the commencement of home voting for the Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya, starting from the North Garo Hills district on Thursday.

The home voting process will continue in the district until April 8, with a total of 6,106 electors registered for home voting across the state. Among these, 3,424 voters are spread across 36 assembly segments of the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, while the remaining 2,682 are in 14 assembly segments under the Tura Lok Sabha constituency.

Tiwari highlighted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated this inclusive election measure, building upon the success of a similar exercise during the previous assembly elections.

Scheduled dates for home voting in various districts are as follows: Ri-Bhoi district on April 8, West Garo Hills on April 8 and 9, South Garo Hills on April 12 and 13, South West Garo Hills from April 6 to 8, and East Garo Hills on April 12 and 13.

Primarily, elderly persons above 80 years of age make use of this facility, and home voting is conducted in the presence of representatives from political parties, candidates, and election observers.

The general elections for both Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya are slated for the first phase on April 19.
