Shillong – Fresh details have surfaced in the puzzling death of Raja Raghuvanshi, who tragically passed away during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. The owner of the homestay in Nongriat, a secluded village in the East Khasi Hills, has offered a glimpse into the brief stay of Sonam and her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, providing crucial information to investigators piecing together the events leading to the incident.
Constantine, the proprietor of the quaint homestay nestled amidst the verdant hills, recounted the couple’s fleeting presence. “They came here on May 22 around 4:30 pm. They stayed just one night and left the next morning at 5:30 am, saying they were heading to Cherrapunji,” Constantine stated. He further detailed their arrival, noting they had “one luggage” and ordered coffee before retiring to their room. For dinner, the couple opted for a simple meal of ‘roti-sabji’.
The homestay, renowned for its proximity to the iconic double-decker root bridge, typically buzzes with trekkers and nature lovers seeking respite in its tranquil environs. Visuals from the location, now under scrutiny, depict the idyllic setting where the Raghuvanshis spent their solitary night.
The East Khasi Hills police are meticulously scrutinising all travel and accommodation records as part of their comprehensive investigation into the case, which has gripped the nation. Authorities are also engaging with locals, tour guides, and other homestay operators in the region, aiming to meticulously reconstruct the couple’s movements in the days preceding the tragic incident.
Nongriat, a village usually celebrated for its serene beauty and peaceful ambiance, now finds itself unwittingly at the heart of a perplexing and disturbing mystery.
