Hornbill Festival Takes Flight in Nagaland

Kohima, Nagaland: The vibrant colors of Nagaland’s rich cultural tapestry came alive as the 10-day Hornbill Festival kicked off in Kisama on Sunday.

Thousands of tourists, both domestic and international, flocked to the picturesque Naga Heritage Village to witness the grand opening of this much-anticipated event.

The festival commenced with a mesmerizing fusion of traditional and contemporary performances by local artists and international groups from Japan, Wales, and Peru. The air was filled with the rhythmic beats of traditional drums, the graceful movements of folk dances, and the melodious tunes of indigenous music.

Gracing the occasion, Nagaland Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio officially inaugurated the 25th edition of the festival. The ceremony was marked by the beating of the traditional Naga gong, blessings from the revered Head Gaon Burah of Kohima village, and prayers offered by the Bishop of Kohima.

Adding a touch of Bollywood magic to the event, renowned musician A.R. Rahman delighted the audience with a soulful rendition of his popular song “Nadaan Parindey.”

The Hornbill Festival, often hailed as the “festival of festivals,” is a unique platform that showcases the diverse cultures and traditions of Nagaland’s 18 major tribes. It offers visitors a glimpse into the state’s vibrant heritage, from its exquisite handicrafts and mouthwatering cuisine to its exhilarating sports and captivating music.
