Guwahati: At least 19 people died in a horrific incident that took place due to a heater in New York, USA.
According to reports, a space heater had gone wrong and due to that, the fire started. Suddenly, smoke filled the Bronx apartment building, in which 19 people including nine children died tragically due to suffocation
Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said the fire was caused by a fault in the electric space heater. Due to the fire on the second and third floors of the 19-storey building, smoke-filled and people lost their lives in it. He said that the gate of the apartment was open, due to which smoke spread immediately throughout the building. Many people trapped in the apartments suffocated, broke windowpanes, and hung wet towels on the doors. Firefighters saved a young man with great effort.
He said that I was so nervous that every time instead of the fire alarm, I used to sound the false alarm. Negro said that despite all the efforts, some people could not be saved. The reason for this was that the smoke was filled too much. Rescuers found victims on every floor. The respiratory system of most people was deeply affected.
The children killed in this incident were 16 years of age or less. Most of those killed are native to the African nation of Zambia and belong to the Muslim community. Still, 13 people are admitted to the hospital in serious condition. A total of 60 people has been affected by this incident. Negro said that most of those killed were feeling short of breath. He said that this incident is very scary.
However, to control the fire that broke out on Sunday, 200 rescuers had reached the spot and more and more people were saved by running a swift operation.
