Hours after resigning as IPFT MLA, Ex-Tripura minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia joins TIPRA

Guwahati: Former Tripura minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia joined the TIPRA party on Wednesday.

Jamatia joined the TIPRA party just one day after leaving her position as an IPFT MLA.

Mevar Kumar Jamatia joined the TIPRA organisation led by Pradyot Deb Barma in Agartala of Tripura along with several other IPFT officials and followers.

Former Tripura minister Jamatia claimed that he joined TIPRA after seeing the state’s tribal populace support the party’s demand for “Greater Tipraland” in spades.

He further said that the Tripura BJP-IPFT government “did not allow” him to serve the state’s citizens.

“I made an effort to work for Tripura’s citizens, both tribal and non-tribal. But I was forbidden from working. I was unable to continue, and the BJP is to blame,” he said.

The BJP ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has experienced a major setback prior to the 2023 state elections.

Mevar Kumar Jamatia tendered his resignation to Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly – Ratan Chakraborty on Tuesday.
