Houses of Kuki Community Burnt in a Fresh Wave of Violence in Manipur

Northeast Desk, 1st August: Manipur has seen new acts of violence, with miscreants allegedly torching houses in Imphal’s Kuki community on Monday night.

According to reports, miscreants set fire to the Kuki community’s homes in Imphal’s Zomi Villa late Monday night.

Thongkholal Haokip, an academic and writer, rushed to Twitter and stated, “Despite Manipur Chief Minister’s repeated claims that normalcy has returned in Imphal, tonight Cannan veng/Zomi villa, located in the heart of Imphal, is burnt down.” In this realm of impunity, law and order are a distant memory.”

Since May 3, violent incidents sparked by ethnic confrontations have raged in the state. So far, at least 150 people have died and nearly 1,000 have been injured. The violence has also displaced approximately 50,000 individuals.

Notably, a 21-member team from the opposition alliance I.N.D.I.A recently paid a two-day visit to violence-torn Manipur.
