Human Trafficking Foiled: Bangladeshi National, Two Indian Touts Nabbed in Agartala Railway Station Crackdown

Agartala: In a swift late-night operation on May 2, security forces arrested a Bangladeshi national and two Indian touts from Agartala railway station on charges of illegal infiltration and suspected human trafficking.

The trio was intercepted while preparing to board a train to Hyderabad, allegedly after crossing into India illegally through the porous Indo-Bangla border.

Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Government Railway Police (GRP), confirmed the arrests on Saturday, noting that the operation was the result of coordinated efforts between the GRP, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and intelligence agencies.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 30-year-old Mamuda from Bangladesh’s Shariatpur district, and two Indian nationals — Krishna Debnath (32) and Toton De (28), both residents of Sabroom in South Tripura. Initial interrogation suggests that the group was engaged in illicit cross-border movement, raising concerns over a potential human trafficking racket.

Authorities are currently conducting phased interrogations at the Agartala GRP police station. A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, and the accused will be produced before the court to seek police remand for further investigation.
