‘I won’t resign from the post of Chief Minister’, tweets Manipur CM
National desk,3o June: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh made it clear on Friday that he would not be stepping down from his position.
Biren Singh’s announcement follows tense drama outside his home when a huge gathering of people gathered to protest his impending resignation.
”At this crucial juncture, I wish to clarify that I will not be resigning from the post of Chief Minister,” he tweeted.
The women who had gathered at his home blocked the entrance to the governor’s home and put pressure on him to return and reconsider his decision to step down as chief minister.
A meeting between Chief Minister Biren Singh and Governor Anusuiya Uikey was planned on Friday at around 2:00 to 3:00 PM and Singh had tendered his resignation.
Biren Singh has not been requested to quit by the Central leadership, according to additional sources at the CM’s office. However, the decision was made after he was offended by the protest organised by women in Imphal on Thursday while carrying dead bodies.
According to reports, Biren Singh was offered the choice of putting down his paper or having the Centre take control. In light of this, Singh was left with no alternative but to submit his resignation.
