IAF Helicopter Crash: Carrying CDS Bipin Rawat along with wife and other IAF officials
Guwahati: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Mi-17V5 helicopter reportedly carrying Chief Defence of Staff Bipin Rawat and his family members crashed in Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
According to reports, the incident took place between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu.
As per the reports, a total of nine persons including CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brigadier LS Lidder, Lt Colonel Harjinder Singh, NK Gursewak Singh, NK Jitendra Kumar, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar and B Sai Teja, and Havaldar Satpal were on board the chopper.
Bipin Rawat and three people were injured in the helicopter crash, and one person is still missing, reports claimed.
Military officers have arrived at the crash site, according to reports, and villagers have brought two bodies to a local hospital with 80 percent burns.
Only a few bodies may be seen downhill in the accident area. According to sources, efforts are being made to recover the dead and verify IDs.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force stated that a Mi-17V5 helicopter carrying CDS Gen Bipin Rawat crashed in Tamil Nadu. The Air Force has launched an investigation into the accident’s cause.
Sharing the news on Twitter the IAF tweeted, “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter carrying CDS Gen Bipin Rawat was involved in a mishap in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, today. An investigation into the reason for the crash has been requested. “
