ICC Session Paves Way for Greener Industrial Future in Assam
Guwahati – The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Assam Chapter, today hosted a pivotal “Guest of the Month – Ease of Doing Business” session, focusing on collaborative environmental governance.
Held at the NEDFi Conference Hall, the event brought together industry leaders and regulatory bodies under the theme, “Bridging Policy and Practice: Strengthening Environmental Governance Through Industry–Regulator Collaboration in Assam.”
The keynote address was delivered by (Dr.) Arup Kumar Misra, Chairman of the Pollution Control Board, Government of Assam, who outlined a progressive vision for environmental compliance and sustainable industrial growth in the region.
Manoj Kumar Agarwala, Chairperson of ICC NER Food Safety & Consumer Protection, initiated the proceedings by underscoring the critical need for sustainable industrial ecosystems within Assam.
Misra, in his comprehensive address, detailed the Board’s transformative approach to environmental governance. He highlighted initiatives such as real-time pollution tracking, the streamlining of green clearances through a Single Window System, and robust collaborative endeavors aimed at promoting renewable energy and scientific innovation.
Further, Misra elaborated on efforts to simplify compliance for industries, enhance water and energy efficiency, and foster green entrepreneurship.
A significant announcement included the upcoming NABL-certified lab in Silchar, set to bolster regional environmental monitoring capabilities alongside the existing Central Lab in Guwahati.
The interactive session that followed facilitated dynamic exchanges between stakeholders from diverse sectors, including cement, pharmaceuticals, tea, chemicals, carbon, life sciences, and hospitality.
Participants engaged in productive discussions on regulatory challenges, the potential of digital innovations, and the imperative of environmental accountability.
Dr. Misra also emphasized the crucial role of effective waste management, particularly in the recycling of medicinal and urban waste, and reiterated the department’s commitment to capacity building, policy advocacy, and collaborative project execution.
The discussions consistently underscored how Assam’s industrial policies are aligning with national climate goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that economic growth proceeds without compromising ecological integrity.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Suhale Nadeem Quddus of ICC, who reiterated the Chamber’s unwavering dedication to cultivating a resilient, transparent, and environmentally responsible industrial framework in Assam through ongoing industry–regulator collaboration.
