ICC WC 2023: Hardik Pandya fails to recover from ankle injury; Prasidh Krishna to Replace Him

Sports Desk, 4th November: Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will not participate in the remaining matches of the ICC World Cup 2023 due to an unrecovered ankle injury.

As a result, Prasidh Krishna has been selected as his replacement, a decision approved by the Event Technical Committee of the tournament on Saturday.

Hardik Pandya’s absence during the tournament raised concerns, and this development has officially confirmed that he will no longer feature in the competition.

Despite India’s victory over Sri Lanka by a staggering 302 runs on Thursday, Pandya did not take part in the match due to his lingering ankle injury, which was initially sustained in a match against Bangladesh last month.

Prasidh Krishna, who has represented India in 19 white ball matches, has been called upon as Pandya’s replacement. His most recent international appearance was against Australia prior to the World Cup, where he took the wicket of David Warner. In his international career, Krishna has secured a total of 33 wickets.

Krishna’s inclusion as Pandya’s substitute opens up the competition for a spot in India’s pace attack, with seasoned players like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami among the contenders.

Following approval by the ICC’s Event Technical Committee, Prasidh Krishna is now eligible for selection and could feature in Sunday’s match against South Africa, the second-ranked team in the World Cup, offering his skills and expertise in the ongoing tournament. The cricket world will be watching as India continues its journey in the ICC World Cup 2023.
