IIM Shillong Hosts Inaugural International Conference on Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Development
Shillong: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong recently hosted its inaugural international conference, Leveraging Emerging Technologies and Analytics for Development (LEAD-2024), with the theme “Empowering Humanity.”
The event brought together a diverse group of academics, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore innovative solutions for global challenges through the synergistic application of technology, analytics, and development principles.
LEAD-2024 underscored the critical role of collaborative partnerships in achieving global development goals. The conference logo, unveiled during the event, visually represents this commitment, symbolizing the integration of artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and sustainability principles, aligning with several key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The conference featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including Prof. Viswanath Venkatesh, Verizon Chair at Virginia Tech, and Prof. Somnath Mukhopadhyay of the University of Texas at El Paso. Renowned academics like Prof. Suprateek Sarker from the University of Virginia and Prof. Jason Bennett Thatcher from Temple University shared their expertise on topics such as the transformative power of digitalization in humanitarian action and the importance of multidisciplinary research in addressing complex global challenges.
The pre-conference included a roundtable discussion and a session by Anand, Technology Advisor at AMTRON, who highlighted the role of emerging technologies in regional development.
