IMD: Depression Weakened Into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area

National Desk, 15 May: India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Monday afternoon that the depression over Myanmara remnant of Cyclonic Storm “Mocha” which is pronounced “Mokha” moved southeast weakened into a clearly defined low-pressure area and was centred at 8:30 am today over northeast Myanmar and the surrounding area.

According to a report from the IMD, the system is projected to deteriorate into a Low Pressure Area over northeast Myanmar and the surrounding area in the next hours.

Cyclone Mocha which has been dubbed the second-most severe cyclone to form in the Bay of Bengal since 1982 and made landfall on Sunday afternoon in Bangladesh and Myanmar’s Rakhine state near Sittwe, tore off roofs and killed at least six people.

Reportedly, Cyclone Mocha wrought devastation in Myanmar by turning streets into rivers, uprooting trees and flooding the coastal city of Sittwe.

Moreover, Mocha a powerful cyclone cut out communications and injured about 700 people.

Out of the 20,000 individuals who were taking shelter in stronger structures on the highlands of Sittwe Township strong winds injured more than 700.

In numerous townships, the storm which had winds of up to 209 km/h, damaged homes, electrical transformers, cell phone towers, boats and lampposts.
