IMD Forecasts Rainfall and Thunderstorms Across Northeastern India

Northeast Desk, 14th June: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms across northeastern India in the upcoming hours. The IMD’s latest bulletin highlights that areas including Sikkim, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, western Arunachal Pradesh, western Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to experience rainfall, with intermittent intense spells expected.

IMD officials also anticipate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in Bihar within the next three hours. According to the IMD’s statement, “Light to moderate rainfall is expected in most places, with occasional intense spells over Sikkim and adjoining areas of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, West Arunachal Pradesh, West Assam, and Meghalaya. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over extreme northeast Bihar during the next 3 hours.”

Earlier alerts from the IMD had cautioned about heavy to very heavy rainfall, including isolated extremely heavy falls, across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India for the next 4-5 days. Simultaneously, the IMD has issued a heatwave warning for northern India, forecasting severe heatwave conditions to persist over the region for the next 4-5 days.
