IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rainfall in Northeastern States

Guwahati, August 19, 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for West Bengal, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days.

  • Duration: The alert is in effect for today and tomorrow.
  • Forecast: Very heavy rainfall expected in the affected states; other regions such as Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and the South Peninsular area will also see heavy to very heavy rainfall.
  • Extended Forecast: A 5-7 day period of intense weather is anticipated, with sustained heavy rainfall in parts of Northwestern India, particularly Uttar Pradesh.

In Delhi, recent showers have provided relief from intense humidity. Although heavy rainfall is expected to decrease, light showers may continue intermittently.
