IMD Issues Orange Alert for Severe Weather Across Multiple Regions

Northeast, August 18, 2024 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for several regions, warning of potentially severe weather conditions. According to Dr. Naresh Kumar, an IMD scientist, West Bengal, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to face very heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours.

In addition, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and parts of the South Peninsular region. Northwestern states, especially Uttar Pradesh, are also on alert, with sustained heavy rainfall predicted over the next 5 to 7 days.

In contrast, the Delhi NCR region is anticipated to experience light rainfall, offering some respite from the prevailing weather patterns. The IMD has urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the adverse weather conditions develop.
