IMD Issues Red Alert for Uttarakhand, Assam, and Meghalaya Amidst Heavy Rainfall Forecast
Guwahati, 2nd July: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Uttarakhand, Assam, and Meghalaya today, cautioning of extremely heavy rainfall. This alert coincides with forecasts predicting continued downpours across various parts of North India, including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar over the next three to four days. Similar weather patterns are anticipated in Gujarat and along the West Coast.
According to the IMD’s monthly outlook, July is expected to witness above-normal rainfall across the country. However, northeast India, parts of Assam, and certain regions of northwest, east, and southeast peninsular India may experience below-normal rainfall.
The Monsoon Mission Climate Forecast System forecasts suggest a potential development of La Nina conditions during the latter part of the monsoon season.
In response to the Red Alert issued for Assam and Meghalaya, local authorities are gearing up for adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall that raises concerns about potential flooding and landslides. Vigilant administrations have activated precautionary measures to safeguard residents and critical infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Delhi residents experienced light drizzles early in the morning, with expectations of continued cloudy skies and heavy rain in the days ahead. Temperatures are forecasted to range between 27 to 33 degrees Celsius.
The IMD advises the public to stay updated with weather alerts and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities to minimize risks associated with the inclement weather conditions across various parts of India.
