IMD Issues Severe Weather Warning for Northeast India
Northeast Desk, 2nd September: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning for the Northeastern region, predicting substantial rainfall over the next five days. From September 2 to September 5, isolated heavy rainfall is expected across Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura.
This weather pattern is being attributed to a persistent cyclonic circulation over Nagaland and the surrounding areas, which extends up to 0.9 km above sea level. In addition to the heavy rainfall, the IMD forecasts that thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, will impact these regions during this period.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impacts of these severe weather conditions. The IMD urges the public to stay updated with local weather forecasts and follow safety advisories issued by authorities.
This alert comes as the region continues to experience the monsoon season, with the potential for flooding and landslides being a significant concern. The IMD’s warning is a reminder of the need for preparedness and caution during this period of heightened weather activity.
