IMD Predicts Rainfall in Assam Region Over Next Few Days

Guwahati, 20th August: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rainfall in the Assam region over the next 4-5 days, with isolated areas likely to experience extremely heavy to very heavy rains. The IMD has issued yellow and orange advisories in certain parts of Assam for the upcoming days.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, a low-pressure area that was initially over south Jharkhand and neighboring states has now shifted to north Chhattisgarh and its surrounding regions. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and is expected to move across northeast Madhya Pradesh in a west-northwesterly direction within the next 24 hours.

The Monsoon Trough, stretching up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, is moving from southeast to northeast Bay of Bengal, passing through various locations. The report also indicates that strong low-level winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India are likely to bring moisture, leading to rainfall across the Assam region.

Residents and authorities in the region are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall can result in localized flooding and other related issues.
