Inauguration of NECTAR’s Mizoram Liaison Office Marks Milestone in State’s Technological Advancement

Northeast Desk, 13th June: Today, a significant step towards enhancing Mizoram’s technological landscape was taken with the inauguration of the Mizoram Liaison Office of the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) at the Directorate of Science premises. The ceremony was graced by Vanlaldina Fanai, Commissioner & Secretary of the Planning and Programme Implementation Department, who emphasized the pivotal role of Science and Technology in the state’s progress.

Fanai underscored that advancements in Science and Technology are crucial for Mizoram’s development trajectory, expressing optimism about the office’s potential impact on fostering innovation across various sectors.

Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma, Director General of NECTAR, presided over the inauguration ceremony, presenting an overview of NECTAR’s ongoing projects and future plans. Established in 2012 under the Government of India’s Department of Science & Technology, NECTAR operates from its headquarters in Shillong, Meghalaya, focusing on harnessing cutting-edge technologies from central scientific institutions.

The Centre aims to leverage niche frontier technologies available within scientific departments to address regional challenges and promote sustainable development.

NECTAR has initiated and executed several projects across the North Eastern states, including Mizoram. Notably, in Mizoram, the Centre has successfully completed three projects: the Demonstration and induction of solar-powered cold storage in Khawzawl District, the Motif design and replication system of traditional Mizo puan, and the Promotion of techno-partnership in NER, Thenzawl. These initiatives are designed to enhance agricultural infrastructure, preserve cultural heritage, and foster technological collaborations in the region.

The inauguration of the Mizoram Liaison Office signifies a pivotal moment in Mizoram’s journey towards embracing advanced technologies to drive socio-economic progress and innovation.
