INC Supremo Sonia Gandhi Hospitalised For 2nd Time This Year

Guwahati: Former Indian National Congress (INC) supremo Sonia Gandhi was admitted to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Thursday, several reports claimed.

The senior Congress leader was admitted due to bronchitis. Her condition has since stabilised, the hospital reported in a statement.

The 76-year-old was admitted yesterday, according to a hospital representative, and is currently stable.

Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to the hospital under the supervision of senior consultant Arup Basu of the the department of chest medicine and his team, “on account of fever”, said DS Rana, Chairman, Trust Society, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

“Gandhi is under observation and undergoing investigations. Her condition is stable,” the statement read.

It should be noted that Sonia Gandhi was previously taken to the same hospital in January of this year for treatment of a viral respiratory ailment, making this her second hospital admission in 2023.

According to hospital officials, Sonia Gandhi was admitted to the hospital in Delhi on January 4 for treatment of a viral respiratory infection.

Dr Ajay Swaroop, chairman (Board of Management), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said, “Sonia Gandhi, chairperson, UPA was admitted to our hospital today.”

Dr Swaroop further said that she was admitted to the Department of Chest Medicine under the care of Dr Arup Basu and his team.

“Sonia Gandhi has been admitted for observation and treatment of a viral respiratory infection,” Dr Swaroop added.

Reports claim that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the general secretary of the Congress in charge of the state of Uttar Pradesh, missed her mother’s deteriorating health to miss her brother Rahul Gandhi’s then-ongoing “Bharat Jodo Yatra” in the BJP-ruled state.

Priyanka and Rahul both travelled back to Delhi from UP, where the yatra was taking place. The following morning, Rahul returned to the yatra from Mavikala in the UP district of Baghpat.
