Independent MLAs Extend Support to BJP Government in Arunachal Pradesh
Northeast Desk, 18th June: Three independent Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Arunachal Pradesh have pledged their unwavering support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu. Laisam Simai, Wanglam Sawin, and Tenzin Nima Glow communicated their decision through an official letter of support to Chief Minister Khandu, a confirmation by BJP sources revealed.
Expressing his appreciation, Chief Minister Khandu remarked, “Heartfelt thanks to Independent MLAs Shri Laisam Simai Ji, Shri Wanglam Sawin Ji, and Shri Tenzin Nima Glow Ji for extending support to the BJP government in Arunachal Pradesh.” He emphasized their dedication to the state’s progress, stating, “Your decision, as conveyed through your letter of support, underscores your dedication to the state’s development. Together, we will continue to work to develop and prosper Arunachal Pradesh. Thank you for your trust and support. #StrongerTogether #ArunachalRising.”
Simai and Sawin, who secured re-election from Nampong and Khonsa East constituencies respectively, did not receive party tickets in the April 19 polls. Meanwhile, first-time MLA Tenzin Nima Glow emerged victorious from the Thrizino-Buragaon assembly seat in West Kameng district, defeating two-time BJP MLA Kumsi Sidisow.
In the recently concluded assembly elections, the BJP secured a dominant position with 46 out of 60 seats. The National People’s Party (NPP) secured five seats, while the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won three seats. Additionally, the People’s Party of Arunachal clinched two seats, with the opposition Congress party securing one seat.
Both the NPP and NCP are constituent partners of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), contributing to the political landscape and coalition dynamics in the region.
