India Aims to Equal China’s Border Infrastructure in Two Years, States Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita

National Desk, 28th December: In a series of confident statements, Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita, the Eastern Army Commander, declared that India is poised to match China’s level of border infrastructure development within the next two years. Despite China’s head start in this endeavor, General Kalita, set to retire in December 2023, highlighted the significant progress India has made in narrowing the infrastructural gap along the shared borders.

While acknowledging specific advantages held by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA), General Kalita emphasized India’s success in matching capabilities. The priority areas for India’s border infrastructure development include enhancing road connectivity to border posts, improving data communication, mobile connectivity, and establishing helipads and airports in remote regions, crucial in challenging terrains prone to natural calamities.

The urgent need for alternative road networks, especially in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, became evident after flash floods isolated north Sikkim, emphasizing the strategic importance of these regions. The infrastructure development not only serves military purposes but also aims to enhance living conditions for locals and stimulate economic growth through increased tourism.

As India commits to securing its frontiers and fostering prosperity, the next couple of years are crucial in achieving the set goal, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s strategic development under Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita’s vision.
