INDIA Alliance Challenges BJP Stronghold in Northeastern States

Northeast Desk, 4th June: Dodging the exit poll predictions, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) has mounted a fierce contest against the BJP and its allies in the northeastern states of India.

Mizoram

In Mizoram, which has two Lok Sabha seats, the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is leading in one seat. Richard Vanlalhmangaiha of ZPM leads by 66,852 votes, while the Mizo National Front’s (MNF) K Vanlalvena trails by the same margin. Congress’s Lalbiakzama lags significantly, trailing by 1,08,521 votes.

Arunachal Pradesh

The BJP is leading in both seats in Arunachal Pradesh. In Arunachal West, BJP’s Kiren Rijiju has a substantial lead of 92,424 votes. In Arunachal East, Tapir Gao leads by 30,344 votes.

Manipur

Marking the first Lok Sabha elections since the Manipur violence, the Congress has taken the lead in both seats. In Inner Manipur, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam leads by 72,491 votes. In Outer Manipur, Alfred Kanngam S Arthur is ahead by 50,825 votes.

Nagaland

Congress’s S Supongmeren Jamir is currently leading with 50,275 votes, securing a total of 3,95,344 votes. Dr. Chumben Murry from the NDPP is in second place with 3,45,069 votes.

Sikkim

In Sikkim, Indra Hang Subba from Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) leads with 78,170 votes, while Bharat Basnett from Citizen Action Party-Sikkim (CAPS) is close behind with 78,666 votes.

Tripura

In Tripura West, BJP’s Biplab Kumar Deb leads with 8,56,553 votes. In second place is INC’s Asish Kumar Saha with 2,62,151 votes. In Tripura East, BJP’s Kriti Devi Debbarman has a strong lead of 4,79,685 votes over CPI(M)’s Rajendra Reang.

Meghalaya

In Meghalaya’s Shillong constituency, Ricky Andrew from VOTPP is leading with 3,67,966 votes. In Tura constituency, INC’s Vincent H Pala is in second place with 3,82,058 votes.

As the vote counting progresses, these results highlight a competitive electoral landscape in the northeastern states, with the INDIA alliance making significant inroads against the BJP’s established dominance.
