India and Kazakhstan Confer on Counter-Terrorism Issues

National Desk, 10th April: The Ministry of External Affairs has disclosed that India and Kazakhstan engaged in discussions regarding counter-terrorism matters during a joint working group meeting held in Astana.

The meeting, chaired in Astana, saw deliberations on terrorist threats prevalent in both regions, encompassing state-sponsored cross-border terrorism in South Asia and terrorist activities in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region.

The Indian delegation, headed by KD Dewal, Joint Secretary (CT) of the Ministry of External Affairs, collaborated with their Kazakh counterparts, led by Talgat Kaliyev, Ambassador-at-large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The 5th meeting of the India-Kazakhstan Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism convened on April 8 of this year. The MEA’s statement outlined the discussion points, which included assessing counter-terrorism challenges such as the utilization of new technologies by terrorists, the misuse of the internet for terrorist objectives, radicalization, and terror financing.

Both sides emphasized the significance of bolstering counter-terrorism cooperation through various means, including information exchange, capacity building initiatives, training programs, and collaboration at multilateral forums such as the UN, EAG, and SCO.
