India and Malaysia Forge Stronger Ties Through Strategic Partnership Talks
International: Kuala Lumpur witnessed a significant diplomatic engagement today as Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita met with Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad bin Alamin.
The discussions centered on bolstering the comprehensive strategic partnership shared between India and Malaysia, signaling a mutual commitment to deepen bilateral relations across a wide spectrum of sectors.
The dialogue between the two dignitaries extended beyond specific areas of collaboration, encompassing a broad exchange of perspectives on pressing regional and global developments. This indicates a shared interest in navigating the complexities of the current international landscape through close consultation and understanding.
Following the productive meeting, Minister Margherita conveyed his satisfaction through a post on X, highlighting the exploration of avenues to advance the shared vision of both Prime Ministers, Shri Narendra Modi and HE Anwar Ibrahim. He also noted the valuable exchange of views on matters of mutual interest spanning both regional and global contexts.
Minister Margherita’s arrival in Malaysia on Thursday marked his inaugural official visit to the nation in his capacity as Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles. His presence underscores the importance India attaches to its relationship with Malaysia. He is currently leading the Indian delegation at the prestigious Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair, taking place on April 18–19.
This participation in the MATTA Fair is an integral part of the ASEAN-India Tourism Professionals Exchange Programme 2025, an initiative designed to foster greater tourism cooperation between the regions. Upon his arrival, Minister Margherita expressed his enthusiasm for his engagements with Malaysian senior dignitaries and the launch of initiatives under the ASEAN-India Year of Tourism 2025.
The tourism programme, a collaborative effort supported by the ASEAN-India Fund and organized in partnership with the Assam Tourism Development Corporation, strategically aims to showcase India’s diverse tourism offerings, with a particular emphasis on the captivating potential of North-East India.
In addition to his diplomatic and trade-focused engagements, Minister Margherita is also scheduled to connect with members of the Indian community residing in Malaysia, further strengthening the people-to-people bonds between the two nations during his ongoing visit.
