India Applauds US Terror Tag for LeT Proxy TRF, Hails Joint Anti-Terror Stance

National: New Delhi on Friday lauded the United States’ decision to designate The Resistance Front (TRF), a front organisation for the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), as a global terrorist outfit. This significant move by Washington was hailed by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar as a robust affirmation of the deepening counter-terrorism cooperation between India and the US.

In a social media statement, Jaishankar specifically commended US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the designation of TRF, highlighting the group’s responsibility for the chilling Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The attack tragically claimed the lives of 26 civilians, marking it as the deadliest assault on non-combatants in India since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The US State Department, in its official notification, underscored TRF’s involvement in the Pahalgam incident and its continued perpetration of attacks against Indian security forces, including recent incidents in 2024. The State Department further emphasised that these actions reflect the Trump Administration’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding national security interests, combating terrorism, and upholding President Trump’s call for justice in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy.
