INDIA Bloc, Manipur Urges PM Modi to Visit State Amid Ongoing Crisis
Imphal: The INDIA Bloc in Manipur, led by Convenor Ksh. Shanta Singh and Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh, has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to visit the violence-stricken state before the end of the year.
The memorandum highlighted the continued turmoil in Manipur since May 2023, marked by widespread violence, displacement, and loss of lives. “Nearly a lakh of people have been internally displaced, and hundreds of lives have been lost, plunging the state into chaos,” it stated, emphasizing the urgency of direct engagement from the Prime Minister to address the escalating crisis.
Key Demands from the INDIA Bloc:
- PM Modi’s Visit to Manipur: The Bloc strongly urged the Prime Minister to visit the state in person before the end of 2024 to hear the grievances of the affected communities.
- Alternative Meeting in Delhi: If a visit is not feasible, the Bloc proposed that political leaders from Manipur be invited to meet PM Modi at his office or residence in New Delhi.
- Direct Involvement in Restoring Peace: They stressed that PM Modi’s proactive engagement is critical for restoring peace and normalcy in the region.
The memorandum expressed the deep pain and helplessness felt by the people of Manipur and reiterated their hope for PM Modi’s intervention. “Your visit, for the sake of humanity, would be a great strength in restoring peace and normalcy,” it read.
Manipur has been reeling from ethnic clashes and violence, which have resulted in extensive displacement and trauma. The INDIA Bloc’s plea reflects growing demands for meaningful intervention at the highest level to resolve the crisis.
