India Govt bans 54 Chinese apps posing threat national security
Guwahati: The Centre has issued a new order to ban 54 Chinese apps calling them a threat to national security and privacy.
Beauty Camera: Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, CamCard for SalesForce Ent, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock, and Dual Space Lite are among the apps that have been blocked.
Tencent, Alibaba, and NetEase are responsible for a vast number of these mobile applications.
According to reports, the list of ban applications includes several that were previously prohibited by the Indian government but have since rebranded and relaunched under new identities. After receiving formal confirmation and determining the country of origin, orders were made to ban the product once more.
The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) recently issued an order alleging that these apps were sending sensitive data from Indians to servers in foreign nations such as China.
It also directed top app stores, such as Google’s Playstore, to prohibit certain apps. “The 54 apps have already been restricted from being accessed in India through the PlayStore,” a government official stated.
It may be mentioned that the Indian government has prohibited 224 Chinese smartphone apps since June 2020, including famous ones like TikTok, WeChat, Shareit, Helo, Likee, UC News, Bigo Live, UC Browser, ES File Explorer, and Mi Community.
The MeitY will shortly publish a list of blacklisted apps to assist users in identifying them.
